Gasoline and diesel are two of the most widely used fuel sources in the world today. We use these things to power our cars, our generators, to heat up our homes and everything else that we need to power up. Internal combustion engines are what these things are for and depending on your use, you might just actually use up a whole lot. Now this kind of consumption on gas just won't do. As you know, these things cost a lot of money, so it is best that we make sure we don't waste fuel no matter what happens. To try and help you save on your gas consumption, here are a few tips that you might find useful for you. 1. Don't turn your engine on and off a lot. Surprisingly, starting or turning your engine on eats up a lot of gas. So much gas in fact, that it is somewhat equal to the amount of gas consumed when a car is running idle for one minute. So if you are the big fan of saving gas, don't habitually turn your engine off even if it means you're going to be waiting for just a couple of seconds. Even through just this simple thing, you are quite assured that you're saving a fraction of gas. 2. Keep those windows closed when driving at high speeds. Our cars are aerodynamically designed so we could accelerate faster and move through the wind so to speak. What you might not know is that our aerodynamically designed cars also help us with fuel economy. An aerodynamically designed car would result to your car experiencing less drag when driving. This means your car would have to exert less force for it to go as fast as you intend it to go. Sure, you may not feel the effect of drag on your car, but your fuel tank certainly does. One way not to compromise your car's ability to thwart drag is to keep those windows closed in order for drag not to get the best of your car. By doing this, you might actually be able to save up to ten percent more fuel than opening your car windows. 3. Make sure that you're in the right gear number when driving at fast speeds. Say you're going at seventy five miles an hour. If you had set your car's gears to D3, you might find that your car would be roaring and screaming it's lungs out just to attain the speed you want it to go. Quite frankly, this is not advisable. Unnecessary revving of your engine uses a whole lot of gas, and this kind of thing can rob you of your fuel economy. If you plan on driving at considerably fast speeds like when on the freeway, make sure that you set your gears in the right place so you can avoid over revving your car. So don't pretend like you're drag racing; think of how much fuel you're using instead. |
