Why A Smaller Car Can Save You A Lot On Gas

Small size sedans or compact cars are actually more valuable than you think. These may be smaller in size and a whole lot cheaper when it comes to price, but these are actually quite the better choice for millions of Americans nowadays.

There are several reasons as to why these smaller vehicles are gaining in popularity and in sales. Here is a little shocker that you may not be aware of, smaller size cars (well a good few of them that is) actually score higher in crash tests than that of the larger cars. It seems a little bit too good to be true, but it actually is. You have to hand it to some clever designers and engineers for being able to achieve this sort of thing.

Another thing that these should absolutely be proud of is the fact that these things practically sip gasoline compared to that of their larger counterparts like SUVs and trucks. Here are a couple of reasons why smaller cars can save you thousands on gas in the long run.

1. It has a smaller engine.

Okay, so maybe smaller engines produce less horsepower and torque than those of the larger, more powerful engines like the V8s or V6s. But hey, what you really need is to ask yourself if you really do need all that roaring power every single day when you go to work? Maybe not, right?

Seriously, you do not have to go over a hundred miles per hour every single morning and afternoon from work. The advantage here is that smaller engines consume less gas because there are lesser cylinders for the gas to go into. But do not you worry; this doesn't mean that you can't go fast anymore, you still definitely can.

Always remember that a bigger engine does not necessarily make a better and faster car. One pretty good example for these are the Formula One cars and Nascar Stock Cars. Formula One cars can still go fast and possibly even faster than their American counterparts despite having smaller engines.

2. One full tank can last you a whole lot longer

Most car buyers would like to know what the range of a car is based on one full tank. By range, we are talking about how far a car can go based on miles or kilometers. And mind you, these smaller sized cars can actually go a long, long distance.

If you have noticed, SUVs and trucks literally have a very short range as far as one full tank is concerned. Well, it is quite understandable since the engines are quite big. Can you imagine how much gas a four liter gasoline powered engine can consume in an hour that the engine is running? That is almost the twice the size of the engines of smaller sized cars. Imagine how much gas one can save by driving a car that has an engine that is half the size of what most people drive on the streets?
