Five Things To Maintain In Your Car

If you don't have a car, then you won't know that there is actually a lot of work involved in maintaining one. Cars are not objects that will fix themselves or keep themselves in top condition at all times. These do need the utmost care so that you get the best performance out of them all the time. Granted, it does take up a lot of time and sometimes can cut into your budget but it's a sacrifice all car-owners have to make. So what are the things that need to be taken care of exactly? Here is a rundown of some of those parts.

• Wheels – The one thing that gets a lot of punishment on the road are car wheels. These are constantly on the ground and receive a beating like no other part on a vehicle. Because of this, the major problem is taking care of the wheel treads. Tread depth is very important because once your car wheels go bald then there is no telling what kind of accidents you can get into.

Almost all cars have treads in them and if you see that your treads are becoming shallow, you may need to consider replacing them. This may seem expensive but it's a lot cheaper than spending your time in a hospital because of an accident you got into due to bad tires.

• Brakes – Now, the brakes are probably the second most used part of a car. Because the wheels touch the ground, these can whip up dust and grime and it can get stuck on the brakes. This is what is known as brake dust and is not good because the dirt and grime can actually stick to the wheels, given enough heat and moisture. You can get rid of brake dust by using a sponge and cold water.

• Engine belts – You know how you get a really funky sound because one of your engine drive belts snapped or was just plain not in great condition? That sound means that there is something critically bad going on with your engine. This is something you want to prevent from happening. The belts are made of rubber and this means these do not last very long over time. What you need to do is to regularly replace the drive belts every 25 to 50 thousand miles.

• Oil – This is relatively easy to do but you need to know what you are looking at when you check the oil. Make sure that your car is on a level ground before you use the dipstick to check the oil. There are markings on the dipstick that say high or low. If the oil mark appears in between those markings, that's a good sign. However, if it's above or below those signs, you will need to do something about it because this can be hazardous to the condition of your engine.

• Coolant – Ever experienced an overheated car? The solution is simple. Maintain the coolant level. The coolant is very important to keep your engine's temperature even. This is also easy to maintain and replace so make sure that you have a lot of coolant in the reservoir that's set out for it.
