With the world's economy under siege, it's important that we try to brace for the impact of whatever may be the repercussions of the worsening state before we're caught off guard. For us people who own cars and drive them every single day, most of us are still oblivious of how much money we spend on gasoline. We might not see it right away or feel its immediate effect when we take a look at the pump reading, but if you take a look at it in a long term view, that would be a startling amount. If you spend about 30 – 50 dollars on one full tank, and you visit the pump nearly five or six times a month for your refueling needs, that would total to about as much as three thousand six hundred dollars in annual gasoline costs. And it doesn't stop there just yet. If you're the head of the family and you have about three or four cars in your home, you wouldn't want to see that amount triple or even quadruple. 1. Try to plan your destinations ahead of time. If you're going to the mall or to work, take a little time and talk to your family about where you're going. Maybe your wife or one of your children might want to hitch a ride with you. If where you're going to is close by to other places that your family members might want to go to, you can eliminate the need of having to use a second car for a destination that you can already head to without deviating too far from your original destination. That's a practical approach of looking at things. And if you're not too strung up on pride or the absolute need for you to bring a car, then why not agree with this measure? After all, it's still your family that's going to benefit from these. 2. If you can drive a smaller car to work, then why not do it? If you drive an SUV to work every day, and your office is about a hundred miles away from your home, you should think twice before actually going through with this. If you have another car at home that consumes less gas than Sport Utility Vehicles, then why not use that? Driving a car that can consume about fifty percent less gas than SUVs won't just help you save on gas consumption, it's a perfectly sensible and practical strategy. On a lighter note, you can also help by pumping out less carbon dioxide to the environment to help stave off global warming – despite how minute or miniscule your contribution may be. If everybody did it, imagine your cut back on emissions multiplied by a million, or even a billion! 3. Don't press too hard on the accelerator. One little detail that fails to get noticed by drivers is that the harder we press on the gas the more fuel gets consumed by our cars. If you try to press a bit lighter on the accelerator, you might even be able to save up to as much as ten percent on fuel consumption. Pretty good fuel savings on something to be done that's as simple as that wouldn't you say? |
