Three Ways To Keep Your Fuel Costs Lower

Prices of fuel these days are ridiculously high. Countries from all over the world are starting to feel the pinch of higher prices. This increase in prices of fuel products is because of the increase in the demand of oil, especially in China. People these days have stressed more importantly the role of consuming less fuel and spending less at the pump.

People have come up with many exciting ways to beat prices of fuel. Others have come up with interesting things like biofuel and using other sources of fuel like electricity or hydrogen. Oil isn't the only thing that can power our vehicles, there are a lot of options than you can think. It's just that oil is so widely used today that it's hard to make a switch to another fuel source for our vehicles and other modes of transportation. So while we continue to be dependent on fossil fuels, here are a few ways you can save a few dollars off your next trip to the gas station.

1. If you can walk to it, do it.

If the place you're going to is just about two to three blocks away from where you are, why don't you just walk instead of going there on a car? Besides from conserving fuel, you're doing your body a favor as well. Walking is considered to be one of the best forms of exercises. And if you make it a daily habit of walking that extra mile, it wouldn't just prove to be a good help to you dollar-wise, it would also do wonders for your health. But going back to gas consumption if you multiply that two to three block car trip over a span of one year, think about how much fuel you're actually saving over a little sacrifice? That could translate into hundreds of dollars that you can save.

2. Use a car that has low fuel consumption.

Japanese and European cars are leading the way in terms of fuel efficiency. It's as if they have even foreseen this to happen. You can hardly get to see a car in the United States that can have a fuel consumption of about 38 miles per gallon of gasoline. If your office is quite far from where you live and commuting is out of your choice of options on getting to work, driving a smaller and less fuel consuming car to work would also allow you to save so much more on fuel costs rather than driving that big gas-guzzling SUV to work everyday.

3. Don't step too hard on the gas pedal.

Another thing that you can do to reduce fuel consumption is by taking it easy on the gas pedal. Pushing the pedal to the metal may sound like a lot of fun and that you would be going really fast, but it wouldn't be as fun as it used to if gas prices are already close to $5 a gallon. Unnecessary revving and overpowering of an engine's power output can cause a higher rate of fuel consumption than those people who are light on the gas pedal. Sure you may be going a little bit slower than your other speed hungry drivers, but you'll be having the last laugh the next time they make the trip to the gas station.
